Dr. Jeanne McGivern

Born in Northern Ireland, Jeanne graduated from a London teaching hospital (1981) with B.Sc. (Hons.) and her medical degree. She obtained her Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (England) in 1985.
Migrating to Australia in 1987, she was appointed Director of Emergency Services at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne and worked as a part-time FMO with the Victorian Institute of Clinical Forensic Medicine before taking up a clinical attachment in the training programme of the Australian College of Sports Physicians. She has worked in private Sports Medicine practice in Geelong since 1995.
For nine years she was Medical Officer with the Geelong FC and now works with the Kangaroos. She has been doctor for the Geelong Supercats Basketball team since 1996. She was team doctor for the U17 International Rules Squad for two years in 2000. She has extensive experience in triathlon cover at a local, national and international level. She assists orthopedic surgeons in Geelong and Melbourne.
She instructs on the Early Management of Severe Trauma Course run by the Royal Aus. College of Surgeons and has established a similar course designed specifically to train doctors and physiotherapists in Australia and NZ in best management of on-field medical emergencies. She was councilor for Sports Trainer Education for Sports Medicine Australia (Vic).
